Clinical medicine study for autism
Nove is already taking 5 meds. A couple for mood stabilization, one for sleeping, and I don’t even know what the others are for right now. Despite that, we’ve signed up for a study for one more medicine. I’m crazy. I know.
Several weeks ago our therapist handed me a paper about the study and said it might be something to look into for Nove. It took me a while to call because we already have so much going on. But, when I did, I got a call back within 24 hours.
The lady was very nice and set up a time to call when I would have time to give her lots of information about Nove. So, a week later we met again on the phone. It took 2 calls because I was at school with Nove that day and the reception sucks out there. But, eventually she got all the information and said that it looks like Nove qualifies for the study. So, another person would be calling soon to set up the schedules for appointment times.
Today that lady called and she may have ADHD! She was scatter brained!
She explained that the first two appointments would run about 2-3 hours each. The first of which, I get to attend alone, but the second and all others, Nove has to attend also. There will be 13 or 15 appointments total, but I don’t remember how long the study goes.
Basically the study will be to see if this medicine helps kids with PDD-NOS and other forms of Autism. It’s been shown to work in people with alzheimer’s and dementia already.
Next week I go for the first appointment. We’ll see how that goes.
